Drawing on her Colombian roots, the Brooklyn-based artist fondly recalls the vibrant ethos of her hometown during the annual Carnival festival where notions of social autonomy, gender fluidity, and power subversion take form in a colorful explosion of culture—key themes that take center stage for her inaugural solo exhibition. On display are dystopian paintings informed by Savdie’s journey as a queer artist, in which she fractures the human body to generate skeletal abstractions that survey the boundaries of the familiar and the foreign.
