Using a set of painterly techniques, Pace renders cultural icons and political figures at a larger-than-life scale that serves as a poignant—and humorous—exploration of celebrity. Each figure is given the shoulders of giants, inflated hands, and disproportionately small heads, embellishing what makes his subjects visually distinct while pulling at the thread of pop culture’s legacy of appropriation, idol worship, and the flattening of mass culture and high art.
