As the prolific artist was pulling into the driveway of his home in Montauk, he noticed wild beach roses growing through the trees, similar to the ones he painted at Vincent Van Gogh’s grave in Auvers-sur-Oise, France. Transfixed by the cerulean blue sky peeking through and what he describes as “the pointillistic nature of nature,” he immediately took to canvas to create paintings that seem to grow: “I painted them the day Donald Trump lost the election and called them ‘Victory!’”
