Across four large-scale installations, the French multi-hyphenate assesses the state of the world with a reawakened awareness of the fragility of human life and the irreversible damage of manmade climate change. Each project employs scientific data and statistics from sources like the UN, the World Health Organization, and satellite-generated photographs. “Lehanneur aims to create the totality of our lives, allowing us to reflect on the conditions, the differences, and the uniqueness of our being,” says Maria Cristina Didero, who curated the show. “By providing tools to grasp a reality that seems abstract and ephemeral, whose scale seems beyond our comprehension, he reminds us that everything is in our hands.”

Among the installations is “State of the World,” which uses the UN’s demographic data to fashion a series of anodized aluminum works that mimic three-dimensional population pyramids from more than 100 different countries, reflecting major events such as wars and baby booms that can be read and touched. It joins a grid of Lehanneur’s signature round sculptures in enameled ceramic that reflect the blue-and-green hues of seas around the world and a luminous glass filament suspended from the ceiling that projects rising sea levels.
