The prolific artist debuts a new body of work across paintings, bronze sculptures, and 35mm film that reflect on the existential conditions of his own life and freeform material exploration. Among these are “Black and Blue,” a group of canvases serving as a natural evolution to his “Anxious Red Paintings” that embody universal feelings of anxiety, isolation, and loss felt by many during the pandemic. They’re rendered in a deep blue oil paint; the color is spread and layered across the oil-coated linen surfaces so that it takes on a range of blues, from light blue to almost black, conjuring feelings of aftermath, reckoning, and healing thanks to half-human faces arranged in expressive, viscous fields of line and color.
