Showcasing the distinct bricolage aesthetic that propelled Tom Sachs to stardom, “Ritual” features a selection of never-before-seen works exhibited on custom pedestals inspired by modernist shapes. Each sculpture draws influence from urban subcultures—specifically the corner bodegas of New York City—by replicating commonplace industrial objects using everyday materials such as plywood, resin, cardboard, tape, and paint. It offers a curious take on what Sachs bills “guilty consumerism” while demonstrating how the making of an object offers a way to connect with it.
