Celebrating the resilient spirit of Japanese architecture and craftsmanship, this exhibition features a variety of woodworking tools and architectural models that reflect the joinery techniques used to create the country’s wooden masterpieces across centuries. This array of tools, which include planes, chisels, and saws, shows how today’s master carpenters reference the practices of their predecessors to construct refined, sustainable structures while unpacking the intangible qualities of craftsmanship. A wooden exhibition design by Sou Fujimoto in collaboration with Brooklyn’s Popular Architecture touches upon the show’s major themes.
