Founded by Willi and Erika Fehlbaum in 1957, Vitra has been a family run business for more than 80 years and embraces sustainability as a corporate attitude that finds expression in every aspect of the company. Vitra’s campus in Weil am Rhein, Germany is a renowned destination for the exploration of design’s history and vanguard and home to the Vitra Design Museum. The campus features buildings by a wide-ranging group of architects, including Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Alvaro Siza, Herzog & de Meuron, and SANAA, among others.

Abalon Sofa

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, 2022. Taking its name from the shell of a sea snail, Abalon forms its own architecture for seating circles: with its organically curved shape, the sofa evokes a circle to which people feel drawn. Generously accommodating three people, the upholstered seat shell features different knitted fabric covers on the front and back, which can be removed in full for cleaning or replacement. These are available in a diverse selection of hues, and result in a wide range of configuration options.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, 2006/2021. The 'room in a room' is a concept that Vitra has intensively pursued over many years in collaboration with the designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. In 2006, the idea of mobile micro-architectural elements led to the development of the Alcove family, which has been continuously expanded with new models ever since.
